We sat down with Dan Short to ask him a few questions about what it's like to run his own shop, and what some of his interests are outside of the garage.

When did you first realize your passion for cars?
DS: I first realized my passion for cars when I was in high school. I began to build mini bikes and go carts when I was 12 and by the time I was 14 my dad let me buy a 750cc motor cycle. At 16 I purchased the fastest production bike in the world. I didn't have enough money for fast cars for another few years. That started with my 67 RSSS Camaro when I turned 19.

What's your favorite thing about running an auto restoration shop?
DS: Working with the best build team on the planet.

What advice would you give to someone looking to get into the auto restoration business?
DS: I'd let them know that it is the highest stress lowest paying job they'll ever have. They better live for passion because they can't be in it for the money.

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
DS: Route 66 with a group of my closest friends.

What are three things that you can't live without?
DS: Passion, my family, Jesus.

Which build in this season are you most proud of?
DS: A marine that served in Vietnam, entered my life and he begged us to build his dream car. He died just after we started building and the family didn't have the money to continue. We built the car for them anyways.

You can catch the season finale of FantomWorks on Wednesday at 9/8c on Velocity.
